17. The benefits of using VoIP?
Traditional phone calls work by allocating an entire phone line to each call.  With VoIP, voice data is compressed, packetized, and transmitted over a computer network, This means VoIP uses substantially less bandwidth than a traditional telephone call and is consequently more cost effective.  There are, however, several other benefits to using this technology.

  • Simplified infrastructure through combination of data and voice network
  • Lower trunk costs compared to ISDN
  • Lower call costs due mainly to ability to bypass long distance call tolls
  • Improved productivity
  • Easier moves, additions and changes (MAC)
  • High flexibility through number portability
